Dear Audrey,
Paul and Christine took us to
Stirling
where we parted. They are going to come up from New Castle and meet us in Edinburgh
later.
On our way down from Skye to Stirling we passed through Port
Williams but we did not make a stop, though there is much to
see there. We do not have time to go to
Glasgow
either, because we decided to spend some time here in
Stirling.
Stirling is a very nice place, the city is not too big, which means
you can walk to most places. There are lots of historic sites to
see, Stirling castle
for one of them. Here Mary, Queen of
Scots
was crowned in 1542. She was only one week old.
We spent two days there!
We also saw the National Wallace Monument
. (You remember the story of
William Wallace
? Mel Gibson portrayed him in the film
Braveheart
.)
We are staying in a B&B again, which we enjoy very much.
(Remember Scottish breakfasts
?)
By the way, during the last week of our holiday we are renting a
car, a brand new Fiat
Punto. It makes it easier to get around, and it is not that expensive in comparison with bus fares.
Tomorrow we are going to
Bannockburn
. In 1314 there was a battle between the Scots, led by King Robert the Bruce
and the English, who were beaten.
Love from Linda. |
