Letters from Scotland -> The Highlands -> Letter 3A | |||

Hi Audrey,
We had a safe flight to Aberdeen , the Granite City, as it is
sometimes called because most buildings are made of this
material. We went straight to the Youth Hostel where we had a family room that we had booked before leaving
Denmark. It is a quite nice and organized place (not like the
one I told you about in Strasbourg!) and it is not far from the centre of the city.
Before
leaving, the kids were excited and wondering if they
would see any Scotsmen in kilts. Imagine their joy when we almost immediately saw one - he was entering a telephone
booth and we found it quite amusing that what we believed to be a museum artefact
had a need for modern communication!
Later, we saw many
Scotsmen wearing kilts, but of course
kilts are used more for ceremonial purposes than for daily wear.
Did you know that from the pattern of the tartan, you can tell the name of the clan?
Love from Linda. |
