Letters to Audrey

Letters from Scotland  ->  The Highlands  ->  Letter 5

Dear Audrey,

We are now at Loch Ness. There is a small town at the western side of this long and narrow lake called Drumnadrochit.

We stayed the first night in the Backpackers´ Lodge, but honestly, we are too old to stay in a place like that. There were six bunk beds in each room, and if we wanted to be sure to have the room to ourselves, we had to pay for the two empty beds.

So we went to one of the numerous B&Bs (Bed and Breakfast) and found out that we could have a nice apartment and a huge breakfast for an even smaller amount of £s than in the Lodge! - It is so nice here! Behind the house, there is a small stream where Anna and Lasse love to play and make dams.  I am tempted to stay here forever, but “What about the rest of Scotland?” as Peter remarks.

We went for an evening walk to see the remains of Urquhart Castle , from where you have splendid views up and down the loch. I am sorry to inform you that though we watched very closely for quite some time, we did not see any trace of the Loch Ness Monster , or Nessie as she is called.

Love from Linda.
